Year Round Skincare Tips and Tricks

Skincare is an essential part of any healthy beauty routine and as the seasons change, so do our skin care needs. Cleanse, hydrate and protect your skin, and keep these important tips in mind when transitioning from season to season. Because everyone wants beautiful skin all year long, right?

1. Winter Problem: Hydration is of utmost importance during the cooler months because there’s less moisture in the air and stronger winter winds can quickly chap skin. Hot showers and interior forced air systems have also been shown to dehydrate skin leading to fine lines and wrinkles as well as dry skin.

Solution: During the cooler months, place a humidifier in your bedroom or a bowl of water near the fireplace to keep moisture in the air. This will help your skin stay hydrated and healthy. We also recommend using an extra moisturizing cream with sunscreen to keep skin hydrated and protected. Drink at least eight glasses of purified water daily and exfoliate at least twice weekly to remove dead skin and product build-up.

2. Spring Problem: This in-between-season can be a welcome relief after a long, harsh winter, but don’t get complacent with your skincare routine just because the snow has melted.

Solution: Spring is a great time to reevaluate your skincare program, and it’s also a good time to think about incorporating a more powerful sunscreen into your daily routine. Protect your skin by avoiding overexposure to the sun and by maintaining a balanced diet with plenty of nutrients from whole food sources. It’s important to remember that the food that goes into your body can keep your skin clear and radiant and is just as important as the products you put onto the surface of your skin.

3. Summer Problem: Hanging out in the sun all day is part of summer fun, but it can also be harmful to your health if proper precautions aren’t taken.

Solution: Wear sunscreen and cover your head and arms with loose-fitting organic cotton garments to prevent heat stroke and sunburn. Limit your time outside, stay hydrated, and utilize a gentle cleanser twice daily to wash away excess dirt, oil and product buildup. Coconut oil makes a great moisturizer, and marula oil has been shown to reduce the signs of sun damage.

4. Fall Problem: Another transitional season, fall is an excellent time to think about preventative skincare in preparation for winter.

Solution: Establish a healthy skincare routine that includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Also consider adding an extra glass of water to your diet daily to keep skin hydrated from the inside out. We recommend a gentle exfoliant with natural shells or fruit pits to revive the complexion and don’t forget to continue to apply sunscreen regardless of the weather forecast.

Cleanse, hydrate and protect skin all year long to keep your complexion radiant and youthful. After all, a healthy complexion is a happy complexion!
