Rejuvenating & Healing: Skin Care Oils

It may seem counterintuitive to apply oil to the surface of your skin. After all, decades of beauty advice cautioned that oil was the enemy of a healthy, radiant complexion. Recently however, proponents of natural beauty products have rediscovered the skin care secrets used for centuries by native and ancient cultures worldwide. Natural oils, extracted from a variety of plants have been shown to heal, nourish and moisturize the skin, transforming it from blah to beautiful.

1. Rejuvenating: Rose Hip Oil

This light and refreshing oil is known for its anti-aging properties and its ability to rejuvenate and repair sun-damaged skin. High in vitamins A and C, rose hip oil has also been shown to reduce dark spots and other signs of aging. An excellent remedy for diminishing the appearance of scars and fine lines, rose hip oil absorbs quickly into the skin delivering extra moisture on contact.

2. Healing: Tea Tree Oil

Derived from the leaves of the native Australian tea tree, tea tree oil has been shown to heal acne-prone skin, relieve sore muscles and diminish fungal infections. It has a spicy and refreshing scent and is most effective when diluted with jojoba or coconut oil.

3. Cleansing: Jojoba Oil

Jojoba (pronounced ho-ho-ba) oil comes from the seed of the Jojoba plant, a shrub found in the Southwestern desert of the United States. With softening, cleansing and anti-aging properties, Jojoba oil can be used as a facial cleanser and fine-line reducer. As a cleanser, coat skin with a thin layer of Jojoba oil and allow oil to set for 5 minutes. Gently massage and remove the oil with a warm, damp washcloth to reveal clean, glowing skin.

4. Soothing: Arnica Oil

Rich in essential fatty acids and utilized for centuries for its anti-inflammatory properties, arnica oil comes from the flowers and the roots of the arnica plant. When diluted with olive or almond oil, arnica oil has been shown to help reduce swelling caused by strains and sprains, and diminish acne and pain from insect bites.

5. Anti-Aging: Marula Oil

From the seeds of the Marula tree comes this antioxidant-rich oil with highly moisturizing and anti-aging properties. Marula oil has been shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and reduce visible signs of sun damage. High in essential fatty acids and vitamin C, marula oil diminishes redness and heals scarring.

Whether you’re looking to rejuvenate, heal or sooth damaged skin, natural oils offer welcome relief without the use of harmful chemicals or preservatives. Take your skin from dull and lifeless to healthy and radiant with natural skin care oils.
